9 miles of Prague

I started my first full day in Prague by joining some of my tour group members for breakfast that was provided by the hotel. Met some folks that live near where I used to live in a couple of states, which is cool. It was Sunday, so not a lot of things I had planned to see were open, but I still set out on my little adventure to check out a few things throughout the city. It was a warm and sunny day and very crowded despite it being a Sunday. Apparently, Prague isn't a very religious city as I thought it was based on the many cathedrals and churches.

After getting lost in the old town area near my hotel, which I hear is pretty normal, I walked across the Charles Bridge, explored the other side of it, which included trying a trdlnik (basically a tube shaped churro that is baked versus fried), seeing the Lennon wall and the world's narrowest street, which is just a stairway with a crosswalk.

I was on the hunt for a geocache and found that there was one on the opposite end of the Charles bridge, so I could grab it on my way back to the hotel (my goal is to get one in every country I visit.) Typically geocaches are hidden in public places and you don't have to pay to access them, but the one that I wanted in the bridge tower required me to pay ~$10 to get to the top. Once I reached the top, the door of where I thought the cache was, was locked. I had to wait for a staff member to come up to unlock it for me in order for me to access it. I was literally a couple of minutes from just giving up and heading back down! I got my Czech souvenir and he views from the top of the tower were amazing.

After taking a break in my hotel room, we had our first tour group meeting where our guide gave us an overview of the tour and we all introduced ourselves. From there, we met up again for a walking tour of the city with a local guide,

...and then ended in the evening with a hearty dinner (potato/veg soup, beef in cream sauce with dumplings, and apple strudel) and live entertainment...two guys that I had seen in some Rick Steves videos!

By the end of the day, my Fitbit showed that I had walked over 9 miles...which is impressive considering I broke my toe back in February. Believe me, I felt it!
